About Waverley Road Montessori

“A child in his earliest years, when they are only two or a little more, is capable of tremendous achievements”.
—Dr. Maria Montessori

Our School

Toddler Program

Our Toddler community is an authentic Montessori environment that includes a nurturing social community where very young children can learn and grow as individuals or participate in cooperative groups with other children. The pervasive feeling of joy in the Toddler classroom, as in all our Montessori environments, has its roots in “freedom with limits”, that is appropriate to a child’s developmental abilities.

Toddler Curriculum

Practical Life activities allow children to successfully accomplish many of the purposeful daily activities that they observe adults do, such as a setting a table, folding clothes and watering plants. Through these activities children help to care for their environment, following a logical sequence of steps. The toddler community also practices Self-Care; learning to take off and put their shoes, zip and snap, do buttons and successfully learn to use the toilet. The Toddler environment offers a rich Language program, thoughtful conversations, songs reading time and a wide range of materials designed to enrich vocabulary. Manipulative materials for Sensory-Motor development encourage refinement of hand-eye coordination. Self-Expression is learned in an artistic manner through musical instruments, painting and colouring.

From the minute I stepped into Waverley Montessori I knew I had found the perfect home-away-from home for my child. As a Montessori teacher myself I was looking for an authentic Montessori environment. Over these past two years I have watched my son grow and developed into a confident, happy, kind and compassionate independent learner - what more could a parent want.

We have been continually amazed at the degree of care, attentive nature of all the staff and the thoughtfulness that goes into establishing and implementing the curriculum. Our daughter has thrived immensely and has exhibited growth, knowledge acquisition and a strong sense of independence. We feel so fortunate to have found this school.

Lia and Alex S.

Our daughter started in the toddler classroom this past fall at the Waverly Road Montessori School. We have been very happy with the dedication and commitment the teachers have to advancing her potential. It’s amazing what your toddler can do when you put them in an environment that allows them to shine!

Casa Program:

The Waverley Road Montessori School Casa community works with children between 2.6 and 4.6 years old in an engaging early childhood education program built upon the methods observed by Dr. Montessori. Our school puts children in an environment that embraces creativity, builds self-awareness, fosters self-esteem, and helps them develop the academic skills and physical/ personal confidence necessary for lifelong success.

Casa Curriculum:

Children in the Casa Program possess what Dr. Montessori called “the absorbent mind,” the ability to absorb all aspects of one’s culture and environment. To cultivate learning, we provide authentic and comprehensively prepared environments that offer concrete hands-on, self-directed and self-correcting materials that will allow the students to learn independently and at “their own pace.” Our curriculum focuses on Practical Life, Sensorial Materials, Mathematics, Language, Culture, Creative expression and Grace and courtesy.

Louis, our almost 4 years old now, has been learning so much since he joined the Waverley Montessori School. He loves his teachers and he is always happy to be in class. As parents, we could not be happier to see our son being prepared for school and life.

Veronique & Jean-P.

Both of my children have attended Waverley Montessori and it has helped them both immensely. I've been amazed at how quickly they began learning and becoming more independent. The positive environment and the dedication of each teacher shows. It's the reason why at the end of the day they want to stay at school instead of coming home.

At Waverley Road Montessori School, we believe in nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our Casa Program is designed for children aged 3 to 6 and focuses on developing independence, curiosity, and a love for learning through hands-on experiences.

Practical Life Skills

We encourage children to care for themselves and their environment by engaging in everyday activities they see at home. These tasks, along with lessons in grace and courtesy, help children develop coordination and a sense of responsibility. Through these activities, children learn to work through tasks from start to finish, building their ability to think and act logically.

Sensorial Learning

In our Montessori classrooms, we create an environment where children can explore the world around them. Dr. Montessori described young children as having an “absorbent mind,” meaning they naturally soak up everything in their surroundings. To support this, we provide carefully prepared environments with hands-on, self-directed activities that allow children to learn at their own pace.

Mathematics

Our approach to teaching math is grounded in concrete experiences. Children learn mathematical concepts by manipulating materials, which helps them build a strong foundation for understanding abstract ideas. This method not only strengthens their math skills but also enhances their problem-solving abilities.

Language Development

Language is central to a child’s growth, and our classrooms are rich with opportunities for oral language development. Children participate in conversations, listen to stories, and enjoy poetry. Tools like sandpaper letters help them connect sounds to symbols, laying the groundwork for writing and reading. As they grow, children are introduced to grammar, further enhancing their reading skills.

Cultural Activities

We introduce children to the wonders of the world through Geography, Biology, Botany, Zoology, and History. These activities help children learn about different cultures and the natural world, fostering a sense of connection to the global community and respect for all living things.

Art and Music

Creative expression is a vital part of our curriculum. Our comprehensive art and music programs give children the chance to explore various forms of creativity, helping them develop their artistic talents and a deep appreciation for the arts.
