Our Learning Environment

A Thoughtful Montessori Learning Space

Our Space and How We Use It

At Waverley Road Montessori School, we have carefully designed a learning environment that nurtures each child’s growth, independence, and love of learning. Here’s what makes our environment unique:

Freedom of Movement

Our bright and spacious classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to meet the developmental needs of children. Students are free to move about, explore, and engage with materials at their own pace. This freedom allows them to develop a sense of independence and confidence in their abilities.

Mixed-Age Classrooms

Following Dr. Montessori’s observations of child development, our classrooms are organized into mixed-age groups. This approach allows older children to mentor younger ones, fostering a community of collaboration and respect while catering to each child’s individual learning path.

Child-Sized and Organic Materials

We prioritize the use of child-sized furniture and organic materials in our classrooms. These materials are designed with the environment in mind, having a low impact on the land, and are carefully chosen to support the child’s learning and development.

Weekly Work Plans

Each week, students follow individualized work plans that are rooted in the Montessori curriculum. These plans guide them through various activities that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and the development of practical life skills.

Integrated Curriculum

Our curriculum is integrated and holistic, incorporating lessons in grace, courtesy, and conflict resolution. We believe in teaching the whole child, not just academically but also socially and emotionally, to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.

Healthy, On-Site Meals

We are committed to providing nutritious meals prepared on-site, using organic and locally sourced produce. We offer gluten-free and customized meals to accommodate students with special dietary needs, ensuring every child can enjoy healthy, delicious food.
